Burger Brackets: BLT Steak Vs. BGR Burger Joint

The second round of Burger Brackets continue! Want to make sure your favorite advances? Vote in today's face-off.

Published Monday, March 16, 2009

The second round of our Burger Brackets continues, as two fan favorites crushed the competition over the weekend. Was there every any doubt that Five Guys' legions of local fans were going to come out in swarms to vote? And vote they did, as Five Guys beat Billy Martin's Tavern with 78% of the vote. Chadwick's did even better—they won against Spider Kelly's with a shocking 95% of the vote!

Moving on, today's burger challenge is...

BLT Steak: The juicy $16 lunchtime burger at BLT Steak is made from Black Angus beef and served on an old-school sesame bun.

BGR Burger Joint: From the sesame-seed-topped bun to the hormone-free, aged prime beef, the creative burgers at this retro Bethesda spot aim high.

Who makes the better burger? Vote in the poll below, then leave your thoughts in the comments. And stay tuned; later today we'll have Harry's Tap Room vs. Quarry House Tavern facing off.

I am a 250 pound burger guy. This is what I always get, even in fine dining. BLT is simply the best.

BGR is hands down the best burger - freshest ingredients - well worth the price. Love the fresh buns and yes - I agree with the poster who said bacon and cheddar!! mmmmmm. Also awesome fries! No contest! BGR Rocks!

BGR is overpriced junk, seriously. Go to Five Guys for an identical burger at half the price.

If you want a gourmet burger with premium meats and the finest ingredients, go to BLT!! (they have great steaks too.. one of my favorite new-ish restaurants in DC!!)

Burger Joint is overpriced for what it is. A drink, fries and burger cost over $14.00. This is was too expensive for a little carry-out joint.

BGR is in every way better than BLT steakhouse. I have eaten at both, and BLT is nice for a sit down dinner, but for burgers, BGR crushes them in several ways. The staff at BGR are friendly and polite, they remember me each time I come in, and they are always happy to make a suggestion or go out of their way to make, the customer, happy. On top of that, the price at BGR for a gourmet burger is unbeatable anywhere, and what you get in return in amazing. The meat is fresh, delicious, and cooked to order, and the trimings are always creative (love the monthly specials), extremely fresh and colorful, and delicious. Go to BLT for dinner and try the ribeye, go to BGR for burgers and try just about anything!

What it comes down to in a burger is the taste - despite the "kind" of beef we are disputing, what tastes better? My vote is for BLT - it just TASTES A WHOLE LOT BETTER!

as BGR gains at 9:30 pm the BLT’rs come back out to fight. Fact is BGR is the only act in town that uses Prime Dry aged beef in their burgers BLT does not.... BLT may also want to come clean on the grading of beef in the filet? Yes a BLT Insider, spilling beans:)

Posted by: interesting, Mar 16, 2009 06:37:30 PM

Each time I’ve had a burger at BGR the bun has been soggy and the wait just doesn’t add anything to the experience. Unfortunately, mediocre and dissapointing.

Posted by: Burgertaster, Mar 16, 2009 06:28:07 PM

All you BLT haters out there...don’t hate the player, hate the game! Just accept that BLT has amazing burgers, a best kept secret of a high end restaurant. You just can’t compete with that high quality beef!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Jack, Mar 16, 2009 06:24:53 PM

BGR is the best! And worth the wait.

Posted by: Burgerhvn, Mar 16, 2009 05:51:16 PM

well... quite a quandry. and very interesting BGR crushes BLT all day today like 80-20, then around 4pm the BLT pr machine must have kicked in and all of a sudden 5 posts saying how great BLT is, and the vote massively swings. Coincidence, I think not, rigged... no, out of towners voting as part of the BLT PR machine definately.... too bad.... I agree BGR, Central and Ray’s are simply the best products this town has to offer.

Shawn you must work there. I think you sell 10 burgers a week! Rays Hell Burger sells 10 a second. BLT doesnt belong in a burger race. Pack it up and go back to NY. where everything is overpriced and over hyped! The finals should be Rays vs BGR. No one else deserves to be there!

Posted by: rj, Mar 16, 2009 03:32:45 PM

BLT has one of the best burgers ever!!! HANDS DOWN

Posted by: Shawn, Mar 16, 2009 02:56:20 PM

The Burger Joint is by far better than BLT, hand cut tomatoes, awesome bun, great flavor. I can’t believe people would vote for BLT over BGR!

shows me nothing is pure in this world anymore, it is all about how big your machine is to vote for the win.

Whatever, the true winner is BGR!

Posted by: BurgerFan, Mar 16, 2009 02:05:45 PM

Just left BLT, prdered the Burger. What are you people thinking, dry as a hockey puck, stale bun, horrible fries. and 22 bucks before tip.
Must be lots of BLT staffers manning the site today. one word : GROSS!

Posted by: mayor, Mar 16, 2009 01:53:03 PM

BGR rocks. Bacon cheddar, char grilled cooked medium rare! it’s perfection.

Posted by: alb, Mar 16, 2009 01:47:00 PM

BLT by far. My kids love em too.

Posted by: spec, Mar 16, 2009 12:44:40 PM

The BLT experience is all around good - from food to service to ambience - everyone should share in this delight

Posted by: Mark Sugar, Mar 16, 2009 12:42:55 PM

BLT has better burgers than even Five Guys...there is just something to be said for that savory flavor and high quality that you can’t beat anywhere!

Posted by: Jessica, Mar 16, 2009 12:19:52 PM

One of the things I miss most about DC is the BLT Steak burger!!

Posted by: OKC Burger Girl, Mar 16, 2009 12:14:29 PM

BLT’s love for great steaks is not missed in its incredible burgers!

Posted by: Dajung, Mar 16, 2009 12:08:29 PM

BLT has by far the best burgers EVER! Everyone should try it at least once, something about their recipe...you can’t beat the taste!!

Posted by: Burgerbabe, Mar 16, 2009 11:58:17 AM

BLT Steak has by far best burger in town! Hands down!

Posted by: Sugar, Mar 16, 2009 11:47:27 AM

I don’t know what the appeal of BGR is. The burgers are OK, you wait way too long for them to be ready and often the bun is burnt.
