Things to Do

Where & When: What to Do Tonight

Hear cross-cultural poetry, hone your rap skills, and dance to a new beat

The Goethe-Institut’s Time Shadows Project celebrates three unique cultures through its poetry. The 2011 installment showcases works by poets in China, Germany, and the United States with a focus on contemporary urban life. Enjoy a reading, discussion, and snacks at the Institut at 6:30. RSVP to rsvp@washington.goethe.org.

Test your rap skills at Liv Nightclub’s Hip-Hop Karaoke night. A DJ will be on hand with instrumental versions of hip-hop classics and help get the crowd hyped up. 9 PM; free.

DC-based music producer Chris Price’s latest venture is DJ-ing “Unknown Pleasures,” a weekly dance party at Wonderland Ballroom. But don’t expect to hear any Top 40 tunes—the title refers to the lesser-known house, synthpop, disco, and more that will get you dancing. 10 PM; free.
