Drink more cider: Apple lovers, rejoice: Virginia Cider Week is here. While many of the events are held in the southern part of the state, you’ll find a number around Washington including tastings, pairing dinners, tap takeovers, and more. See the full lineup of events for details.
Gluten-free takeover: GCDC serves a special gluten-free menu on Tuesday from 4 to 8:30. Dishes include lobster macaroni and cheese, and dessert French toast using Goldilocks Goodies gluten-free bread.Pairings include two naturally wheat-free beers. Prices vary between $5 and $20.
Winter lounge: Poste Brasserie transforms its patio space into a winter lounge starting this week, Thursday to Saturday from 7 to 9. Sip warm cocktails, nibble on complimentary homemade s’mores, and warm up by a fire pit. There is no cost for admission; food and drink prices vary.
Free booze: Need we say more? Everyone’s favorite steampunk-inspired bar, the Alex, gives away Moscow mules on Thursday starting at 7. The drink is made with Absolut Oak vodka, ginger beer, apple bitters, and apple cider. Get there early—the offer is only valid as long as supplies last.
Seasonal feast: Brabo’s guest chef dinner series returns on Thursday from 7 to 9. Todd Gray of Equinox joins Harper McClure for a seasonal menu that showcases cuisine from the Virginia Piedmont region. Tickets ($75) are available by emailing events@braborestaurant.com.
Oyster riot: Old Ebbitt Grill hosts its annual Oyster Riot on Friday and Saturday. On the menu: thousands of oysters and free-flowing wine, which can be consumed to tunes from live bands. Tickets ($140) can be purchased for two evening sessions, or for Saturday afternoon.
Cocktail class: Zentan’s lead bartender Matt Allred teaches a cocktail class on Saturday from 2 to 4. The event donates 10% of proceeds to the Movember Project. Tickets ($40) are available online.
Vino Fest: Spend Saturday night tasting wine for a good cause at UnCorked!, held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Over 90 bottles from across the globe are offered, all to benefit Neediest Kids. Tickets ($250 to $350) are available online.
Fine Wines: Fiola wine director Casper Rice offers his holiday wine suggestions on Saturday at 1:30. Sample artisan cheeses and cured meats, mingle with guests, and sample fine wines. The offerings include Cantina Terlano ‘Vorberg’ 2014, Giacomo Grimaldi Barolo ‘Le Coste’ 2010, and Zyme Veneto Rosso. Tickets ($150) are available by calling 202-628-2888.
