21 Must-Try Japanese Dishes Around Washington (Pictures)

From Happy Spoons to roiling ramen: You really have to try them all.

For our November issue, the Washingtonian food staff explored Japanese food—a cuisine that’s having an exciting moment in this city.

The package (which goes online Wednesday) includes everything from sushi chefs’ favorite knives to a review of the roiling local ramen scene and a guide to how to find the best sort of sake to suit your tastes. Along the way, we discovered—and rediscovered—some amazing Japanese dishes around town.

From uni and quail egg on V Street to a party-in-your-mouth appetizer at the Four Seasons Baltimore: These dishes represent some of the best of what you’ll find in Washington-area Japanese spots. Flip through the slideshow for a look at the artfully plated creations, then start scheduling dates to try them all. We suspect you’ll end up as obsessed as we are.
