The Marine Corps Marathon and Army Ten-Miler are still in the clear, but there’s one major race that’s been affected by the government shutdown: the fourth annual Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon.
The half marathon, scheduled for this weekend, has been moved to a later date as a result of the shutdown. The first eight miles of the course is on the George Washington Memorial Parkway, a national park. Race officials made the decision Wednesday night.
But all is not lost for the more than 3,000 participants who have been training for the race. The half has been rescheduled for Sunday, November 10, at 7 AM.
“Our decision to postpone midweek was very difficult, very complex, very strategic, very frustrating, and very sad,” Steve Nearman, the event director and founder, said in a statement.
And if you weren’t already signed up for the run, now’s your chance. Registration will remain open for the next five weeks. Runners who already signed up can run in the November 10 race or defer their registration to next year’s race.
