Overlooking Massachusetts Avenue as it dips under Thomas Circle, Homewood Suites is our pick for a Best Value Hotel—because most everything is included in the room rate, including breakfast and some dinners. As the name implies, all 175 rooms are suites, with fully stocked kitchens. This means pots and pans, a dishwasher, full-size refrigerator, microwave, ice maker, and even a free grocery shopping service. The only thing guests would pay for are long-distance phone calls and pay-per-view movies, although guests can bring their own DVDs, or, for $5, rent ones at a small “sweet store”next to the front desk. The room set-up—you can get either a king or two doubles—works well for extended-stay business travelers, groups, and especially families. Rooms also have a separate vanity outside of the bathroom.
If you don’t feel like cooking, there’s a free hot buffet breakfast daily in the roomy lobby—including make-your-own waffles, and a free buffet dinner, as well as free beer, Monday through Thursday.
There are two flat-screen TVs in all suites—one in the bedroom, one in the living area—and coin laundry. The hotel sells individual packs of detergent.
