Less prim and proper than its historic neighbors, the JW Marriott is casual with a whole lot of space. When you walk in, you’re greeted by a huge geometric and mall-like space with escalators down to three floors below and massive chandeliers lining one side. Its location on Pennsylvania Avenue prime, and its size benefits business meetings.

Its center can get crowded, because of a typically full-day schedule of conferences, shows, and meetings going on on the floors below. The hotel’s two dining options are 1331 and Avenue Grill. The cocktail lounge, 1331, is sleek in design and also high-tech, with flat-panel TVs at every booth. On the main level is also a Starbucks and a gift shop.

Guest rooms and suites are plush, bright, and functional. A neat feature is the swivel desk that pivots for various angles. When reserving a room, you can request a Pennsylvania Avenue view for about $20 more.
