Why go: Think good, affordable dining in DC’s Dupont Circle is hard to find? Try finding good, affordable al fresco dining. This 25-year-old cafe is the exception. In a neighborhood of destination dining and hotel cooking, it serves up good Greek fare at an honest price in cheery, cozy surroundings.

What to get: Supreme versions of hummus and taramasalata; a salad of warm chickpeas in olive oil garnished with chopped green onion; one of the best gyros around; keftethes, grilled meatballs flecked with parsley; yogurt with honey and almonds for dessert.

Best for: A fast meal before a show; a lingering meal after.

Insider tip: In warm weather, take your tray outside to dine under the wide umbrellas on the patio and take in the scene along Connecticut Avenue.

Open daily for lunch and dinner.
