Johnny Monis and Anne Marler’s Mediterranean carryout has changed over the past year. For one, the Dupont rowhouse space formerly known as Happy Gyro has a new name. It’s also now a natural-wine shop and is no longer takeout-only—there are a few outdoor tables as well as room for standup snacking inside (where you may encounter the best, crackliest French fries of your life). What remains: the couple’s dedication to craft and quality, as fervent as it was at their previous restaurant in this space, the top-tier tasting room Komi. Whether it’s falafel, pita and tzatziki, sourdough pizza, a pork gyro, or a salt-boiled bagel, Monis’s food always elicits one reaction from us: Run, don’t walk.
