St. Anselm

This is DC’s coolest—and most idiosyncratic—steakhouse. You’ll find giant ax-handle rib eyes (45 ounces and up) to share, a stick-it-to-the-man punk soundtrack, and a wine list obsessed with the under-appreciated Madeira. The dining room (call it Elks-lodge chic) is crammed with taxidermy, including a giant bear pelt. The menu, though, mostly plays it straight, with wedge and Waldorf salads, pan-fried mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and butcher steaks and T-bones. Not in the mood for beef? Try a delicious grilled salmon collar.
