Great Takeout: Patisseri Poupon

This very French patisserie—a longtime source of buttery croissants and brioche and light Parisian-style lunches—now offers more substantial fare for evening takeout. Curries of chicken or shrimp with rice ($29.95 for four), vegetarian lasagna ($34.95 for four), and buttery whole roast chicken with roasted potatoes and vegetables ($29.95 for four) are among the offerings. The only catch is that you have to order a day in advance.

Already-made items available daily include flaky quiches (we like the mushroom-and-spinach), baguette sandwiches such as jambon with French mustard and Brie with tomato, and clever salads (the crudité with fennel mayonnaise, beets, and corn is our favorite, though chicken with red pepper and classic shrimp aren’t far behind); prices are $5.25 to $10.95. This isn’t the place to skip dessert. Pastel macaroons, delicate fruit tarts, mille-feuille, and chocolate-custard-filled éclairs are all wonderful. The patisserie has been known to run out of some items, so it’s best to call and check on what’s available.
