Great Takeout: Kaz Sushi Bistro

The to-go assortments at Kaz Sushi Bistro (1915 I St., NW; 202-530-5500) let you sample chef Kaz Okochi’s cooking at a relative bargain. A sweet stew of tender short rib ($16.50) is arrayed with rice, green salad, and a slab of tofu in dashi broth, and the generous sushi box ($16.50), with tuna, salmon, whitefish, shrimp, and California rolls, gets a side of creamy seaweed salad. At dinner the bentos are more expensive ($19 to $25) but include an order of ultralight tempura.
