Quarry House Tavern: Listed on the menu as weighing a half pound, this Silver Spring dive's hamburger is a thick patty whose circumference is greater than that of its untoasted, poppy-seed kaiser roll.

Vermilion: This Old Town dining room offers a burger with freshly ground meat that's not too tightly packed and perfectly seasoned, then crowned with a pile of thin, crispy fried onions.
