Downtown Delight: Thompson Hotels’ Donovan House

Washington’s cool factor keeps getting bumped up.

Since its inception, Thompson Hotels has been known for developing hotels with sleek spaces that attract a discerning, hip clientele. Now, it's Donovan House in the nation’s capitol (the name an homage to Wild Bill Donovan, aka the father of the OSS, the CIA's predecessor) that's pushing the trend bar even higher with the unveiling of a new restaurant and rooftop pool and bar.

Chef Susur Lee’s Zentan, a companion restaurant to Lee’s Shang at Thompson LES in New York and Lee in Toronto, will present innovative modern Asian cuisine with delights such as chickpea onion rings with mango chutney and minted yogurt and Szechuan-style duck with bean jam lotus pancakes.

Donovan House’s rooftop bar, Above D.C., is modeled after A60 at 60 Thompson in New York and ABH at Thompson Beverly Hills. Above D.C.—or ADC if you're into that whole brevity thing—boasts a bar and a heated pool surrounded by chaise lounges. A fireplace, Brazilian Ipe decking and Cherry Blossom trees round out this warm and inviting atmosphere. We hear the views of the D.C. skyline alone are well worth the trip up to the top., 202-737-1200.
