ArtSpring

More than 100 local artists sell their wares at this downtown Silver Spring store. The merchandise ranges from arts and crafts—hand-sewn patchwork aprons, decorative painted tiles—to fine art such as oil paintings and black-and-white photography. A portion of every sale goes to support the local nonprofit Pyramid Atlantic Art Center.

For pets on all-natural diets, Living Ruff carries dry and wet food that’s corn-free, wheat-free, and soy-free. The store hosts dog and cat adoption days with rescue groups.

PollySue’s Vintage Shop

This two-level store carries items for men and women dating as far back as the 1880s. The place is a treasure trove for fans of vintage hats—pillboxes, fedoras, and more fill several racks and boxes. Women’s clothing, including some Mad Men–worthy dresses, are upstairs; the men’s selection of button-down shirts, blazers, and a few old tuxedos are on the lower level. Quirky accessories and retro housewares are throughout the store.

Rerun

Former hippies and flower children can get a dose of the past at this Takoma Park vintage store, where orange walls are plastered with retro posters and peace-and-love stickers. There’s a heavy emphasis on clothing, accessories, and jewelry from the ’60s and ’70s. Expect bold, floral-print dresses, flowing skirts, retro tees, worn-in cowboy boots, and lots of vinyl records. Both men and women can find pieces here, from good-condition outerwear to bell-bottoms.

Roadhouse Oldies

Owned by a pair of radio DJs, this one-room shop is brimming with ’50s and ’60s rock, doo-wop, jazz, soul, and Motown titles, many on 45s and LPs. Looking for a CD? You can make your own here. The place has two digital jukeboxes programmed with thousands of songs; buy them for 99 cents each and burn a CD for an instant mix.
