Holiday Inn Washington – Central/White House

Located a block from Scott Circle, the Holiday Inn Washington is a standard, full-service hotel with an open, bright mood. The hotel, which is undergoing some revamping, has a warm, classic feel.

The carpeting, armoires, and seating-area furniture in all rooms are new, and flat-screen TVs are getting put in this year. Another perk in the rooms are the dual granite vanities—one inside and one outside of the bathroom. The hotel’s corner location gives guests three choices of room views: P Street, Rhode Island Avenue, or the back of the hotel, which is a bit quieter.

There’s a little taste of DC in the lobby restaurant, Avenue Cafe—not in its food, but in its wall displays of First Ladies’ china. Each display case holds three dishes, along with a portrait of a First Lady and a card displaying her favorite recipe. A buffet spread is set up for breakfast and dinner, and kids eat free.

The hotel has a rooftop pool open in the summer, free laundry facilities (but bring your own detergent), and is walking distance to downtown, Dupont Circle, and the lively U Street scene.

Rates start at about $150 on weekends and about $170 on weekdays.

Nearby areas include Logan Circle and Dupont Circle. Nearby attractions include Theater J, Studio Theatre, the National Jewish Museum, the National Geographic Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
