Last night’s High Heel Race elevated Washington to a pinnacle it rarely reaches: true fierceness. As the crowds grew along 17th Street, Northwest, at least five Lady Gagas showed up to greet their “little monsters.” Some ladies took their moment in the spotlight as an opportunity to champion a cause. From cadets in camouflage asking for the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy to an angel with tarred feathers protesting BP in the wake of last spring’s oil spill, all of the outfits were fabulous and fun. Volunteers had only limited success keeping the eager crowds at bay, but they couldn’t stop the glitter from flying, and we have the photos to prove it.
