Where & When: The Week in Washington Nightlife

A sharp comedy, country music, and a night of educational drinking

Monday, May 9

DRINKS: Get a lesson on drinking at “On the Town: Life in Saloons, Speaks, and the Big City Bar” at the Passenger with legendary bartender Dale DeGroff. He’ll be speaking about the history of cocktails and bars, and yes, you can taste test drinks while he speaks. 6:30 to 8 PM; buy tickets here ($40) or at the door ($45).

Tuesday, May 10

FILM: The Canadian Embassy is hosting a special event as part of the GI Film Festival, which includes the premiere of The Telegram Man, a short film about WWII in Australia. A cocktail reception follows the screening. 6 PM; purchase tickets ($45) at the GI Film Festival site.

Wednesday, May 11

THEATER: Sam Forman’s The Moscows of Nantucket opens tonight at Theater J. The Woody Allen-esque play centers on family conflict at a summer retreat in Nantucket. Through June 12; tickets are $30 to $60 at Box Office Tickets.

Thursday, May 12

MUSIC: The country duo Court Yard Hounds—also known as Martie Maguire and Emily Robison of the Dixie Chicks—are performing at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue. They’ve earned critical praise for their pop-country debut, with Robison leading the vocals and other members of the Dixie Chicks band on back-up. 8 PM; get tickets ($40) at Ticketmaster.
