MUSIC:
Don’t miss opening night of Signature Theatre’s annual cabaret event, “ Holiday Follies.” Guests can sip eggnog while watching performances by Florrie Bagel, Priscilla Cuellar, Jake Odmark, Alan Wiggins, and Weslie Woodley. DRINKS: ’Tis the season for ugly sweater parties. McFadden’s is hosting its own shearling shindig with $1 cans of beer, $2 domestic drafts, and a chance to win $100 cash prize. Admission is free; 5 PM.

BALLET: The Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is coming to George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. Tickets ($28 to $88) can be purchased through the university’s Web site. 7:30 PM. The show runs through December 14.

SIGNING: Journalist and MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews will be signing copies of his new book, Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero, at the National Archives. The biography captures JFK’s true feelings about the issues of his presidency—from civil rights and the Peace Corps to nuclear arms testing and putting a man on the moon. Free. Noon.
