It’s been about five years in the making, but the YMCA Anthony Bowen on 14th and W streets is finally ready to open September 9.

And a private tour of the 44,000-square-foot community center proved one thing: It was well worth the wait.

The new YMCA is about half the size of its neighboring National Capital branch, but its state-of-the-art equipment makes up for it. Think top-of-the-line strength and cardio equipment, a two-story rock-climbing wall, and a spacious rooftop terrace.

But the facility is more than just a gym, says Kevin Correll, vice president of member services—“it’s a safe place for people to meet and build community.” With the legacy of founder Anthony Bowen in mind, there are plenty of gathering places on every floor to encourage community interaction.

But we’ll let the photos do the talking. Find out what to expect at the new YMCA Anthony Bowen when it opens its doors on September 9.
