With a pay scale higher than that of most federal agencies, the FDIC consistently finishes near the top in rankings of government agencies. Yet the appeal goes beyond salary, says Mallory Bulman, research director at the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit whose aim is to make federal agencies more effective and efficient. FDIC employees say they’re kept in the loop thanks to employee websites and quarterly conference calls with the chairman during which employees can ask questions.
