Kaleidoscopic blooms will carpet Zwaanendael Park, the main site of the festival, as well as public and private gardens in the laid-back town. Pick up a map and tickets to special events at the chamber of commerce in the park. Besides a photo exhibit and outdoor art, there will be trolley tours of Lewes and a photography workshop on Saturday; each costs $5.

When you've had your fill of flowers, you can enjoy a casual lunch or dinner at two local favorites: Striper Bites (302-645-4657), where we're partial to the lobster roll served at lunch, or Agave (302-645-1232), popular for its Mexican fare.

Make a weekend of it and check into the Inn at Canal Square (888-644-1911), a friendly place where many rooms come with canal views. The inn is offering a two-night package with breakfast for $430 a room.
