Things to Do

Convention-Watching Parties Around Town

Here’s a list of places where you can watch Obama’s nomination acceptance speech this Thursday night.

Don’t want to watch the Democratic National Convention coverage all alone? Need an almost-TGIF drink? Here are a handful of places where you can eat, drink, mingle and witness history.

AFI Silver Theatre
Join the Montgomery County Young Democrats as they sponsor a community-wide Convention Watching Party from 8 to 11. Coverage will be shown on the big screen while snacks, dessert, wine, and beer are served. Tickets are $25. For more information or to buy a ticket in advance, go to mcyd.org.

Bohemian Caverns
Watch Obama’s speech on flat-screen TVs and a projection screen. There will be live music before and after his address as well as food service from the menu and a cash bar. A $15 donation is requested to support the Obama Unity Slate. Hosted by DC for Obama; 7 PM.

Busboys and Poets

The Langston Room, which holds about 75 people, will be tuned in to the convention all day and night Thursday.

Capitol Lounge
It might get noisy here beginning at 7 PM, when Budweiser, Bud Light, Capitol Amber, and Yuengling pitchers are $10 each.

Continental Modern Pool Lounge

Convention coverage on six large screens with sound. Happy-hour specials will be offered from 5 to 8, with $4 rail drinks, $3 select drafts, and half-price Cuban sandwiches.

18th Amendment
Obama will be on all of the big screens, with several large group expected. Thursday night’s standard $5 Svedka flavored vodka drinks will be on hand, with more specials to be announced.

Hawk ’n’ Dove
A large turnout—including a DC for Obama contingency—is expected for the final night of the convention, with $7 Miller Lite pitchers until 9.

Lounge 201
This Capitol Hill watering hole is offering half-price specialty beers until 9 PM. If you’re glued to your barstool pondering the Democratic nominee’s oratory, beers will be available for $1 off until closing.

Stetson’s Famous Bar and Grill
Specials include an extended happy hour upstairs from 4:30 to 9 and half-price turkey burgers. Coverage will be shown with sound both upstairs and down. If you lose interest in the convention, pool tables, darts and foosball are also available.

Union Pub
Just a few blocks from the Capitol, Union Pub will air the convention with Surround Sound while serving Thrifty Thursday specials including $10 house pitchers, $14 frozen-margarita pitchers, and $5 specialty cocktails.

Uno Chicago Grill
Hosted by Diversity 4 Obama, this party is intended as a family-oriented event. A life-size Obama cutout will be available for photo ops, the convention will be shown on flat-screen TVs, and a percentage of proceeds from the night goes to Diversity 4 Obama; 8 PM.

Ventnor Sports Cafe
Forget about sports this Thursday—the convention will fill the screens on the second floor with progressive beer specials beginning at 50 cents at 5 PM and increase hourly.

UPDATE: Timberlake's will be hosting a convention watching party with the members of Drinking Liberally, from 6:30 until 9 PM.
