TaKorean is Bringing Korean Tacos to U Street

It will be the fourth location

Former food truck TaKorean will open its fourth brick-and-mortar location at 1301 U Street Northwest next spring.

Expect a similar build-your-own menu of Korean-style tacos and bowls with proteins (from bulgogi beef to hoisin tofu), slaws, and other toppings. There will also be a small selection of local craft beers, sake, and sochu, as well as snacks and drinks from Running Byrd Tea Co., Capital Kombucha, and Captain Cookie and the Milkman.

Owner Mike Lenard says the 1,800-square-foot space (formerly U Street Cafe) is similar in size to his Navy Yard location and will likewise be designed by Edit Lab at Streetsense. The new locale will have a slightly different “bright and open” look.

Lenard closed his truck more than a year ago and donated it to Arcadia Farms. He’s since been focusing on restaurant expansion.

“We are eyeing other deals within the metro region, and we definitely want to keep the growth momentum going,” Lenard says.
