Crystal City and FotoDC are joining forces for a month of photography-related events, including the main exhibit “FLASH”; “Flickr FLASH,” a photo contest; and Flash After Dash, a series of parties that take place after the Friday 5K in Crystal City. Through April 17 at a temporary gallery at 2450 Crystal Drive, Arlington. The opening party tonight celebrates all 55 of the featured photographers. 8 to 11; no cover.

The Black Cat is hosting Close to the Edge, a dance party focusing on hip-hop and rap and featuring DJ Dredd and Grap Luva. 9:30; tickets ($7) are available at the door.

Swift Technique is playing at the Rock & Roll Hotel along with Baltimore’s A Cool Stick and Soul Cannon and DC’s Ponderosis for an evening of “Capital Funk.” 9 PM; buy tickets ($10) at Ticket Alternative.
