Summer white ales and beer-based cocktails are paired with a beer-flavored entrée and dessert at Belga Café’s monthly beer-tasting event. Starting at 6:30, Belga’s chef and beer sommelier will guide diners through the meal and answer questions about the brews. Reservations recommended. Call 202-544-0100 for more information. $49.

Wednesday, July 1

Five-dollar burgers and half-price wine? Sounds too good to be true, but it’s on every Wednesday during Wine & Dine at Eighteenth & Red in DC’s Adams Morgan. Dinner is served from 5:30 PM to 1:30 AM. No reservations required. Call 202-234-8866 for more details.

Thursday, July 2
Kick off Fourth of July festivities a few days early with Liberated Libations at the Gibson. The U Street hot spot will roast a pig, grill veggies, and serve specialty craft cocktails with American roots. To purchase tickets, call 202-232-2156 Monday through Friday noon to 5. $75.

The Independence Burger Eating Championship will take place at Tenleytown’s Z-Burger (4321 Wisconsin Ave., NW). Grab some lunch and watch participants stuff their faces for a $1,500 grand prize. The competition begins at noon. For more information, call 202-966-1999.

Friday, July 3
You can help decide the menu at Grapeseed American Bistro & Wine Bar’s You Be the Sommelier dinner. Enjoy four seafood and meat courses, each paired with a flight of three wines. You’ll critique them and then vote for your favorite. At the end of the night, the votes will be tallied, and the winning wines will be served by the glass for the next quarter. Call 301-986-9592 for more information and to make reservations. 6:30; $100, inclusive of tax and gratuity.

Saturday, July 4
No one does Independence Day like Washington, and we’ve found plenty of ways to celebrate. Check out our Fourth of July dining guide for meal specials and restaurants with a view of the fireworks.
