The Wrap-Up: The Week in Food

Every week we fill you in on what’s been going on in the food and restaurant world.

Tuesday, the Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema delivered a lineup of dining news:

• Mark Weiss announced that his Whisk Group, which owns Againn—the relatively new British-inspired gastropub near DC’s Metro Center—will open another restaurant this summer in Rockville. The new place, called Againn Tavern, will be similar to its older sibling, but it’ll have more seats and smaller Scotch and beer lists.

• Casa Nonna, an Italian restaurant from the powers behind BLT Steak set to open soon, has named a chef: Amy Brandwein, formerly of Fyve in the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City. Her résumé also includes a stint with chef Roberto Donna at Galileo.

• The Logan Circle hot spot Masa 14 will add twice as many seats in the coming months when its rooftop opens. The menu will be different than the downstairs dining room: Co-owner Kaz Okochi says he’s thinking of hot dogs, tacos, and Japanese hand rolls.

Following Tim Carman’s shocking news last week that chef Enzo Fargione was leaving Teatro Goldoni—which he helped revive from its tired state—general manager Denny Lyon was fired. Carman wrote on the Washington City Paper’s Young & Hungry blog that one line cook may have also quit.

In a post about activity on 14th Street, Northwest, a Prince of Petworth reader claimed that the large Shirt Laundry building on the corner of Q Street is going to be a burger place or a diner. Another reader commented that the former Seafood & Crab takeout is set to become a Chicago hot-dog restaurant.

On Wednesday, chef Cathal Armstrong (the Irishman behind Restaurant Eve, Eamonn’s, the Majestic, and PX) cooked at the White House St. Patrick’s Day gala. His menu included Dublin-spiced lamb chops and Cashel blue-cheese terrine with pecans and honey.
