There was a bit of buzz yesterday that Mayor Vincent Gray was slated to cut the ribbon at the opening of Taylor Gourmet on 14th Street. The mayor never showed up—did he bail, or was he never scheduled? It seems we may never know, as Taylor’s Casey Patten wouldn’t comment on the record, saying only, “We got a good laugh.” Ultimately, it was three Foursquare “mayors” of some of Taylor Gourmet’s earlier locations who clipped the police tape in front of Patten and partner David Mazza’s fifth branch.

Everything you’ve come to expect from a Taylor Gourmet is on offer at the newly opened outpost: subs piled high with Italian cold cuts, chicken cutlets, roast pork, and more; mustard and mayonnaise (this is more revolutionary than it sounds); and welcome late-night service for nocturnal cravings. And starting next week, Taylor on 14th Street will extend its daytime delivery into the wee hours (see the handy-dandy delivery zone map here), so you can get a meatball sub delivered to your door until 10 PM 9 PM weeknights and 2 AM on Friday and Saturday.

*Taylor plans to open its fifth store in Merrifield.
