The Washington Post reports that a truck dispensing free Turkish coffee is traveling around town. The brainchild of one Gizem White, a board member of the American Turkish Association of Washington, the truck is sponsored by Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi—a coffee company based in Istanbul, according to the Post. Today, you’ll find it at 1010 Vermont Avenue, Northwest, between K and L streets, from 10 to 4.
If you fancy a psychic reading along with your cup of joe, good news. The way Turkish coffee is made—finely ground coffee, water, and sugar are boiled in a pot together until the brew begins to foam—allows the grounds to sink to the bottom of the cup. Those grounds are then used by fortune tellers to read the drinker’s fate. According to the Post article, there will be fortune tellers traveling aboard the truck today through September 30, when it parks it at the Washington D.C. Turkish Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue—ask for a reading when you order your beverage, and all will be revealed.
