BabyLove DC Carnival
What better way to spend a Saturday than fundraising for a great cause and rubbing shoulders with some famous faces? Head to the second annual BabyLove DC Carnival on Saturday from 10 to 1 at Tudor Place in Georgetown, hosted by Claire Shipman and George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, White House press secretary (and Shipman’s husband) Jay Carney, actress Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order SVU, and John Bemelmans Marciano, author of books in the Madeleine series for children (created by his grandfather Ludwig Bemelmans). Carnival activities include story time with Hargitay, book signings, arts and crafts, face painting, and food courtesy of Design Cuisine and Sprinkles Cupcakes. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for kids over age two. Proceeds benefit needy kids and families in the area.
Joint Service Open House & Air Show
On Saturday or Sunday from 8 to 5, head to Andrews Air Force Base for the Joint Service Air Show featuring the Thunderbirds, Golden Knights, and other aerial and on-the-ground activities. This event is free. Shuttle-bus service will be provided between FedEx Field and the Branch Avenue Metro stop.
International Children’s Festival
Take your kids for a trip around the world on Saturday from 10 to 4 at Meridian International Center’s fifth annual International Children’s Festival. Join DC delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and 26 embassies for this day of culture and education for children. Enjoy international food, storytelling, dance performances, and arts and crafts. Admission is $10, free for ages 12 and under.
Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival
Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 6, enjoy the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival in Reston Town Center. Families can listen to live entertainment or take the kids to the Children’s Art Tent.
Kennedy Center NSO Kinderkonzert: Got Rhythm?
On Sunday head to the Kennedy Center for a lesson in rhythm performed by members of the National Symphony Orchestra. The NSO Kinderkonzert, “Got Rhythm?”—ideal for those ages four and up—features music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rossini, and others. Kids can enjoy the free musical “petting zoo” an hour before each of the two performances. The show is one hour long. Tickets ($18) are available at the KenCen Web site.
