Dirt Cheap Eats 2009: A & J Restaurant

Feeling gluttonous? Head to these stripped-down dim sum houses where you can order with abandon and keep the budget in check. Bowls of sesame noodles ($4.25) or thin noodles with stewed ground pork ($6.25) are meals in themselves, as is the fried chicken with rice ($6.25). Round them out with a sandwich-size sesame biscuit filled with beef ($2.85), a flaky “thousand layer” pancake ($3.25), or a cool bean-curd-cilantro-and-peanut salad ($2.55). And why not throw in a canapé? We could munch on the boiled spiced peanuts ($2.55) all night long.

Open daily for lunch and dinner.
