Why go: Shiny and clean, painted sunshine yellow, and housed in a strip mall, this is about the last place we’d expect to find real barbecue full of smoke and flavor. But Kerry Britt’s ribs and brisket are terrific.

What to get: Meaty, juicy pork ribs (swab them in the thick crimson sauces, one sweeter than the other); 12-hour pulled pork with a vinegary tang; tender beef brisket; black-pepper-flecked mac and cheese; fresh coleslaw; saucy baked beans; not-too-sugary house-made lemonade.

Best for: Satisfying a barbecue craving without having to take a road trip; takeout for a summer party.

Insider tip: The pulled pork can be bought in bulk and freezes well. You’ll find discount coupons at kbqrealbarbecue.com.

Open daily for lunch and dinner.
