At the Dupont Grille, St. Patty’s day is taken seriously—the restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Dupont Circle branch of Jurys, Ireland’s largest hotel chain (motto: "Your Irish Welcome in the Nation's Capital"). Though chef Russell Cunningham's regular menu is mostly built around American cuisine, tomorrow he'll offer specials of corned beef and cabbage and housemade Irish stew. You can head next door to Biddy Mulligan’s pub for $6 pints, or for the non-Guinness crowd, try one of these festive (and stiff!) libations they're pouring at Dupont Grille's bar. If you want to make them at home, here are the recipes:
Dublin Handshake
(serves 1)
1/2 ounce Baileys Irish cream
1/2 ounce Irish whiskey
3/4 ounce sloe gin
Combine all ingredients and serve.
Irish Eyes
(serves 1)
1 ounce Kilbeggan Irish whiskey
1/4 ounce Crème de Menthe
2 ounces heavy cream
Mix all ingredients and serve.
Tonight, the Friendship Heights Urban Network hosts a St. Patty’s day celebration with an Italian accent at M Cafe. “No corned beef and cabbage,” says general manager Joe Giannino—but free appetizers like gourmet pizza and crostini will be plentiful. You'll find full party details here on our After Hours blog. Bartenders at this Italian cafe have whipped up some green drinks to lend a little Irish spirit, and here Giannino shares a recipe:
The Bulldog
(serves 1)
1 ounce Jameson Irish whiskey
1 ounce Irish Mist
Dash Crème de Menthe
Dash Crème de Cacao
Shake ingredients and serve over ice.
