This week, learn to be a locavore, taste spring wines, and sample small batch bourbons.

Monday, April 27
The M Bar at the Renaissance M Street Hotel (1143 New Hampshire Ave., NW) is hosting “Put a Corc in It,” a wine-and-cheese tasting to celebrate the opening of an art exhibition by students from the Corcoran College of Art + Design. The event, which goes from 6 to 8, includes complimentary tastings of Torrantes and Cabernet varietals by Argentinean organic winemaker Santa Maria plus cheese and light hors d’oeuvres. After the initial tasting, glasses of wine are $5 and select bottles are half price.

Tuesday, April 28

Sample six to seven spring wines at the “Ode to Spring” tasting at Old Town’s Grape + Bean (118 S. Royal St., Alexandria). The tasting will feature a selection of reds, whites, and rosés, with a discussion of the different growing regions and best food pairings for each wine. It runs from 6:30 to 8 and costs $40 per person.

Wednesday, April 29
Georgetown’s Old Glory (3139 M St., NW) is launching Sip ’n Smoke, an evening of bourbon and cigars every Wednesday on its patio. A small-batch-bourbon flight with Bakers, Bookers, Basil Hayden, and Knob Creek is $20. Cigars from Georgetown Tobacco are available for purchase separately. The tasting runs from 5 to 7. The French Wine Society’s advanced wine-studies series presents “Barnyard Elegance,” about the reasons wines that age well often develop a barnyard smell and how to get rid of the smell through decanting. The event, which runs from 6:30 to 8:30, will be held in the wine room of the Embassy Suites hotel (1250 22nd St., NW). Friday, May 1

Food writer Mary Beth Albright will give a lecture on the “urban locavore” lifestyle at CulinAerie (1131 14th St., NW). She’ll give strategies for shopping at farmers markets and talk about buying seasonal, local produce. The talk, which includes a three-course lunch with wine, starts at 12:15 and costs $45. Sunday, May 3

Morton’s the Steakhouse launches its summer tasting series with a daylong tour of Charlottesville’s Jefferson Vineyards, which was started by Thomas Jefferson in 1774. The all-inclusive tour starts with a continental breakfast and glass of Jefferson Pinot Gris at Morton’s in Reston Town Center (11956 Market St.). At noon, guests leave for the vineyard, and a winery tour with a box lunch and glass of Chardonnay begins at 1. A blending seminar is at 3, then guests return to Morton’s at 4.
