Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

Cinco de Mayo parties, a comic book legend and a screening of a cult classic are some of this week's picks.

Monday: Comix 101
Art Spiegelman, a writer and comic author who won a Pulitzer Prize for his graphic novel Maus, will be at the Corcoran tonight to discuss the history of comic books and their value as a current literary medium. 7 PM, $25.

Tuesday: Cinco de Mayo!
It’s nearly time for Cinco de Mayo! We’re helping you celebrate with this roundup of fiestas, margaritas, and music. We've also got a margarita and mojito recipe, great guacamole, and a list of our favorite spots for margaritas in the area.

Wednesday: 48 Hour Film Festival
Last weekend, more than 100 filmmaking crews competed to see who could film the best movie in 48 hours for the 48 Hour Film Festival. And now the results are being screened at AFI Silver. Judge for yourself. Screenings are at 7 and 9:15 PM, and tickets are $10.

Thursday: Dude Fest
Years later, The Big Lebowski is still a cult fave and a cultural touchstone. Get in on the fun with the Arlington Cinema ’n’ Drafthouse’s party tonight celebrating all things Lebowski. The Dude Fest will have trivia, bowling, live music from the movie’s soundtrack, and, of course, a screening of The Big Lebowski itself. $8; 7:30 PM.
