Build a better understanding of architecture and history at the Phillips Collection when Miami University of Ohio professor Kelly Quinn discusses the life and work of African-American architect Hilyard R. Robinson—the designer behind Anacostia’s Langston Terrace Dwellings, DC’s first public-housing project. 5:30.

Bright colors and geometric shapes are on display at Hemphill Fine Arts (1515 14th St., NW; 202-234-5601) when the gallery opens its newest exhibition featuring paintings by Steven Cushner and drawings by William Willis. The reception starts at 6:30.

The Juilliard String Quartet’s newest member, violinist Nick Eanet, gets a proper welcome at the Library of Congress’s James Madison Building with a classical-ensemble performance featuring guest pianist Gilles Vonsattel. The group will play Beethoven, Bolcom, and Bartok. 8 PM.

Brave the fanny-pack crowds in downtown DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival’s Sakura Matsuri street festival on Pennsylvania between Ninth and 14th streets, Northwest. The annual event features Japanese food vendors, arts and cultural exhibits, two beer gardens, live performances, and more. 11 to 6.
