Tuesday, April 6
Mystery writer David Corbett teams up with local teachers to tackle issues such as gang violence, illegal immigration, and war at Busboys and Poets at 14th and V streets. Corbett also discusses and signs his new novel, Do They Know I’m Running?, which touches on those topics. The event starts at 6:30 in the restaurant’s Langston Room.

Wednesday, April 7
Build a better understanding of architecture and history at the Phillips Collection when Miami University of Ohio professor Kelly Quinn discusses the life and work of African-American architect Hilyard R. Robinson—the designer behind Anacostia’s Langston Terrace Dwellings, DC’s first public-housing project. 5:30.

Thursday, April 8
Bright colors and geometric shapes are on display at Hemphill Fine Arts (1515 14th St., NW; 202-234-5601) when the gallery opens its newest exhibition featuring paintings by Steven Cushner and drawings by William Willis. The reception starts at 6:30.

Friday, April 9
The Juilliard String Quartet’s newest member, violinist Nick Eanet, gets a proper welcome at the Library of Congress’s James Madison Building with a classical-ensemble performance featuring guest pianist Gilles Vonsattel. The group will play Beethoven, Bolcom, and Bartok. 8 PM.

Saturday, April 10
Brave the fanny-pack crowds in downtown DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival’s Sakura Matsuri street festival on Pennsylvania between Ninth and 14th streets, Northwest. The annual event features Japanese food vendors, arts and cultural exhibits, two beer gardens, live performances, and more. 11 to 6.

Sunday, April 11
Find something for everyone at the Corcoran’s Family Day, which features dance demonstrations, circus acts, walking tours, and crafts. 10 to 2.
