Where & When: What to Do Tonight

Fifties flashbacks, hilarious hypnotism, and outdoor jazz

If you’re a fan of ’50s tunes, check out Forever Plaid, the new production at Olney Theatre Center that follows the tale of four squeaky-clean would-be rock-and-rollers and the accident that thwarted their careers. For tickets ($26 to $46), call 301-924-3400. 8 PM.

Starting tonight and running through July 18, you can catch Flip Orley, a comic hypnotist, at DC Improv. Orley got into the entrancement business as a sixth-grader when he read the book How to Pick Up Girls Through Hypnotism, and years later he studied psychology in college. Orley swears he won’t embarrass his audiences—although he can’t help it if you fall over laughing. Tickets ($15) are available here. 8 PM.

Kick back and enjoy music at the Village at Shirlington Plaza for its Thursday-night jazz concerts. Tonight, you’ll hear the JazzKnights. The event also features food samples and winetastings from nearby restaurants. The Village is located off I-395 at the Glebe Road/Shirlington exit in Arlington. Free. 6:30 to 8:30.
