Monday, August 2
Design Cuisine is hosting King of the Kitchen, a cooking competition in conjunction with the weeklong Legg Mason Tennis Classic. From 6 to 8, chefs Todd Gray (Equinox) and Kaz Okochi (Kaz Sushi Bistro and Masa 14) will go head to head in a kitchen in the tournament’s hospitality tent. Tuesday, August 3
In its Backyard Barbecue Primer class, Zola Wine & Kitchen covers cooking techniques for baby back ribs, chicken, brats, slaw, beans, and potato salad. The event, $75, starts at 6:30. To reserve a spot, click here.

Wednesday, August 4
Tuscarora Mill and Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery, which makes only canned beers, are teaming up for a beer dinner. Tickets ($75 including tax and gratuity) include a greeter beer as well as five dishes—scallion crabcakes, smoked salmon, blackened pork loin, Thai-spiced Angus strip, and chocolate crepes—each paired with a different brew. Thursday, August 5
The International Club of DC is bringing chocolate and Spanish wine together at Biagio’s Fine Chocolates in DC’s Dupont Circle. The store’s owner, Biagio Abbatiello, is presenting 12 kinds of chocolate, including three locally made truffles. Friday, August 6

The three-day Living Earth Festival starts today at the National Museum of the American Indian. Today’s activities include a farmers market from 8 to 3, cooking demonstrations, and a dinner-and-a-movie event at the museum’s restaurant, Mitsitam Cafe. Saturday, August 7
Marina Marchese, author of Honeybee: Lessons From an Accidental Beekeeper, is signing copies of her book at the Bethesda FreshFarm farmers market (Norfolk Ave. at Veterans Park) from 9 to 1. In addition to chronicling Marchese’s adventures with beekeeping—which led her to found the artisanal-honey business Red Bee—the book includes recipes using honey and pollen.

Sunday, August 8
Learn to make the pastry world’s latest trend, French macarons—two delicate egg-white-based cookies with jelly or ganache in the center—at Cookology (21100 Dulles Town Cir., Sterling; 703-433-1909). Participants will tackle the hard-to-make dessert with three flavors: dark chocolate and coconut, white chocolate with cranberry jam, and raspberry with pecan butter.
