Z What?

When Z Pizza arrived from California, opening pizzerias around the Washington area, it seemed unlikely that the chain would be starting a trend. Along came Z-Burger a year later; more recently, Rawal Kabob in Falls Church changed its name to Z Kabob.

What’s in a letter?

Peter Tabibian, owner of Z-Burger branches in DC’s Tenleytown and Glover Park, claims the name is pure coincidence, though the presumed connection has hardly hindered sales. As for Z Kabob, a manager insists that the kebab house wanted to distinguish itself from its parent operation in Chantilly, also named Rawal Kabob. But why Z? Why not C?
