Ten Under $10: Fun on a Budget

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of John F. Kennedy’s presidency, the Kennedy Center is hosting a performance by students of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at the American Ballet Theatre. They are performing at the Millennium Stage Thursday at 6. Free.

Check out a live talk show—DC style—at the Looking Glass Lounge Thursday. Brandon Wetherbee is hosting “You, Me, Them, Everybody Live!” which features special guests writer-musician Jeff Bagato; standup comic Pete Bladel; musician Ian Walters; and other local performers. 8:30. No cover.

Comedy Happy Hour is back at the Velvet Lounge, where you can see some “Cool Dudes Hanging Out” Friday. The performance features Jared Logan, Kara Klenk, Tyler Richardson, and Jeff Maurer. 7 to 9. $5.

Follow a man with Tourette’s Syndrome as he travels with his mother’s ashes from Germany to the Italian coast in Vincent Wants to Sea, a 2010 German film. The Goethe-Institut is screening it at E Street Cinema Saturday. 7:45. Buy tickets ($10) from Landmark Theatres.

Selin Balci and Katherine Mann’s new multimedia exhibit, “Bound,” opens at the Hamiltonian Gallery this weekend. The ecologically focused exhibit runs through March 4, but there’s an opening reception Saturday from 7 to 9. Free.

There’s a Local Music Showcase at the Clarendon Grill Saturday night, featuring homegrown outfits Memphis 59, Modern Thieves, Boys Will Be Boys, and Citizen. 9 to midnight. Admission is free until 10; after that, tickets are $5.

The DC-based rockers US Royalty, whose debut album drops next week, is playing the Rock & Roll Hotel Saturday night. They group is joined by the Rassle and Honey House. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. Buy tickets at Ticket Alternative . 9:30.

Featuring local musicians, comedians, and artists, the Capital City Showcase on Saturday at DC Arts Center is a great chance to catch some locally themed entertainment. There’ll be skits and videos performed by the Capital City Players. Call 202-462-7833 to make a reservation. 10. $10.

“Truth to Nature: British Photography and Pre-Raphaelitism” is a free symposium held at the National Gallery Saturday in conjunction with the museum’s new exhibit, “The Pre-Raphaelite Lens: British Photography and Painting, 1848-1875.” The event includes scholarly lectures by David Coleman, Duncan Forbes, Laura Hendrickson, Andrew Szegedy-Maszak, and Malcolm Warner. 1 to 5.

The Olde City Side Show, a Philadelphia act that includes glass-eating, fire-swallowing, and other old-fashioned spectacles, is giving two performances Saturday night at the Red Palace.
