The State of Inebriation 2011

Where to watch the President’s speech, drinking games optional

The State of the Union is scheduled to begin at 9, but many bars will start filling up around 8, so make sure to grab a spot early.

Where: Busboys and Poets
What: Catch the address on any one of the TVs in the main room at the 14th and V streets location, but most of the energy will be going toward the weekly open mike. The Shirlington and K Street locations will also be showing the speech and the responses in “free and open” watch parties.

Where: Lounge 201
What: Half-price martinis (including a red-state and blue-state special) all night.

Where: Local 16
What: There are still a few free tickets left for “Together We Thrive,” a celebration of unity. There’ll be a chance to network and watch the address, followed by a DJ and dancing. RSVP using EventBrite. Starts at 6:30.

Where: Hawk ’n’ Dove
What: The legendary political bar will show the speech and responses on 16 TVs, while viewers sip $3.50 Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale all night.

Where: Capitol Lounge
What: Watch the speech in surround sound at the Hill-staffer hangout while chowing down on 25-cent wings.

Where: Ventnor Sports Cafe
What: Pick a word and take a dollar shot every time the POTUS utters it. Suggestions include “health-care,” “economy,” and “Iraq.”

Where: Union Pub
What: With 26 screens, including a 100-inch projection on the patio, you’ll be able to catch every word. Show your support with $5 blue or red martinis, or just relax with $12 Bud Light and Union Pub Amber pitchers or $4 Skyy vodka drinks.
