Andi Pringle Resigns:Citing herself as a “distraction,” Mayor Vincent Gray’s new deputy chief of staff resigned from her position just one week after being hired, the Washington Post reports. Pringle had barely started her job before news broke that she had voted in the District primary last year, despite living in Maryland. In a statement, Gray said, “I appreciate her taking responsibility for her actions. . . . And we must do everything we can to restore public trust in our government.”
Crane Falls at National Cathedral:A crane that was being used to repair the cathedral’s roof crashed to the ground yesterday, damaging one of the oldest buildings on the campus, Herb Cottage. The operator of the crane was sent to the hospital with non-serious injuries. DC Fire/EMS Battalion Chief John Donnelly told the Washington Post, “We don’t know why it collapsed.”
Obama’s Speech Closes Roads: Tough luck if you drove into work today. US Capitol Police will shut down some DC streets during rush hour today before Obama’s speech on jobs at 7 PM. Click here for a listing of the closed roads north and south of the Capitol building.
Butt Slasher Suspect Named:A suspect has been named in the weirdest series of attacks in Fairfax County, WTOP reports. Johnny D. Guillen Pimentel has been connected to at least one of the nine cases of women being stabbed in the butt at area retail stores. Police have issued an arrest warrant for the 40 year-old on a charge of malicious wounding. Caught on Video: Looks like DC is still a long way from being a bike-friendly city. A bicyclist wearing a camera on his helmet recorded himself being assaulted and hit by an angry driver while riding along Rhode Island Avenue on August 31. TBD reports that the Washington Association Bicycle Association (WABA) is now using the video as proof of why the city needs legislation that allows bikers to bring civil law suits against angry motorists.
