MUSIC:
For one night only, the “9 Songwriter Series” is bringing nine up-and-coming artists to the Iota Club—including Vienna native Natalie York, indie-pop singer Molly Hagen, and alternative rocker Jason Mendelson. Tickets ($10) can be purchased at the door. 8 PM.

DRAG RACE: Every October, creatively clad drag queens flock to 17th Street for the annual High Heel Race. The competition doesn’t start until 9 PM, but you’ll want to get there by 6 or earlier to stake out a spot. For a taste of what’s to come, check out our slideshow from 2009’s race.

WINE: Calling all Cabernet lovers! Wildfire is hosting a three-course steak and wine dinner. Prepared by executive chef Eddie Ishaq, the spread will include Asian beef salad, grilled peppercorn-steak skewers, beef carpaccio, braised beef short ribs, and homemade truffles. Each course will be paired with a different Cabernet Sauvignon. Tickets ($70 plus tax and gratuity) can be reserved by calling 703-442-9110. 6:30 PM.

HAPPY HOUR: Join author Jess McCann and the Real Housewives of DC’s Mary Amons at Tattoo Bar for tonight’s Flirt for Charity fundraiser. A $20 donation gets you access to an open bar from 6:30 to 8 (the event runs until 9). Proceeds will benefit Labels for Love, a nonprofit founded by Amons that helps raise awareness for various women’s and children’s charities.
