Politically Inspired Burgers at BLT Steak

Sloppy Joe tops the Biden, while the Birth Certificate sports Spam. Chef Victor Albisu's new sandwiches are very much inside the Beltway.

BLT Steak is a prime haunt for spying politicos, and now you can spot them on the menu, as well. Chef Victor Albisu, a self-proclaimed C-SPAN junkie, just debuted a lunchtime burger menu, and each sandwich is named after players and events in the political scene.

Albisu has more than 15 burgers in the works, and you’ll find five of them offered between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM on any given day. The pizza-themed Cain burger, garnished with buffalo mozzarella and pepperoni-flavored mustard, shares space with the Biden, which drips with melted cheddar and a layer of Sloppy Joe. Those on the fringe also get a nod: The 99% is an homage to fast food in which thin-cut patties, American cheese, and sautéed onions are stuffed between slices of crunchy (get it?) seven-grain bread. Meanwhile, the 1%‚ too rich for some, evokes excess by topping a Kobe beef burger with foie gras and gold leaf.

The burgers are loaded, messy, and will give you a bellyache if you’re not careful. In other words, they have more in common with politicians than just their names.
