Monday, August 13

FOOD: DC’s biannual
restaurant week starts today. You probably
already know the drill: Three-course lunches cost $20.12,
while dinner is slightly less of a steal at $35.12. This is
your last chance to eat
at one (or more) of DC’s 235 best restaurants before the price
rises a penny next
year, so don’t miss out. For tips on getting the most bang for
your buck, check out
our Procrastinator’s Guide to Restaurant

Tuesday, August 14

STORIES: It’s scary to think about, but there’s just over a month of summer left. If yours
has been going anything like mine, you’ve probably got a story or two to tell by this
time—head to Town Dance Boutique for
Baked: Stories About Summer,” hosted by Speakeasy DC. Bring your own story to share, or just come to hear about
others’ debauchery, mild-to-severe injuries, or that time the crabs totally jumped
out of the pot and pinched someone’s toe. Bring your own snacks or cash for food trucks
that’ll be there. Tickets ($15) are available online or at the door. 6:30 PM.

Wednesday, August 15

BEER: You’ve probably drunk plenty of beer, and maybe even know a little bit about the
process of making it—but have you ever had the chance to pick a master brewer’s brain
for three hours?
Jonathan Reeves, head brewer of Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company, will be on hand for a Q&A
session at the brewery’s new tasting room. For every pint of beer you order, you’ll
get to take home the glass, which sure beats a trip to Bed, Bath & Beyond. 5 PM.

Thursday, August 16

RUM: It may be both beer and restaurant week in DC, but across the rest of the United States,
Thursday is
National Rum Day. Celebrate at Chinatown’s
Cuba Libre, where you can enjoy half-price rum drinks and shots during happy hour. The bar has
more than 90 types of rum from all over the world, but in a cruel twist of fate, it
isn’t allowed to serve any Cuban rums because of this whole trade embargo thing we’ve
got going on. 4:30 PM.
