SPOKEN WORD/CABARET: La-Ti-Do, DC’s only spoken-word/cabaret series, continues tonight at Black Fox Lounge. Things
kick off with a special performance by slam poet
G. Yamazawa and spoken-word works from
Regie Cabico, who has appeared on HBO’s
Def Poetry Jam and has won three national poetry prizes. Then things go musical with cabaret theater
for the rest of the night. Tickets ($10 at the door) include one drink voucher. 8
PM.

FASHION: Head to Mazza Gallerie for the fifth annual District Sample Sale, featuring wares from more than 25 boutiques. You’ll find end-of-season
items for up to 90 percent off their retail value. Even if you don’t find something
you love, restaurants such as Rosa Mexicano, Ping Pong Dim Sum, and Black & Orange
will be serving food samples, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets ($40) are available
through EventFarm. 6:30 PM.
Wednesday, September 12
SPELLING: BlackFinn is trying to unseat Rock & Roll Hotel as DC’s go-to drunken-spelling-bee locale.
Show that a little whiskey and beer doesn’t make you forget how to spell o-n-o-m-o-n-o-p-i-a
and you could take home a prize. Twenty bucks gets you entry, a beer, and a shot.
Additional drinks (specials include $3 Miller Lite, $4 rum punch, and $5 house wine)
are on you or your friends who are hopefully sponsoring you. Can you spell hangover?
$10 cover, $20 to spell. 6:30 PM.

YELP PETTING ZOO AND DANCE PARTY: Yelp is mainly for people to complain about how their food took too long or how their
steak was a little dry—but the go-to site for crowdsourced reviews is trying to throw
its own event for you to critique.
Yelp’s Fantasy Land will feature food from H &Pizza, Merzi, Quench, and more, drinks from Appleton Rum,
Lost Rhino Brewing Company, and Vitamin Water, a petting zoo, a magician (illusionist?),
massages, live painting, and a “silent” dance party (everyone will be listening to
music on headphones). $5 at the door; RSVP online. 7 PM.
