FOOTBALL: You Redskins fans had to wait an extra day for the football season to kick off, but
now you have something to look forward to during work. You can pick any ol’ bar to
watch it at, throw it on at home, or meet up with hundreds of die-hard fellow fans
at the
Howard Theatre, which is hosting a season kickoff viewing party. Free. 5 PM.
Tuesday, September 10
DATING: Even if you’re already spoken for,
Taan Noodles’ speed-dating event is probably worth it for the food alone: You’ll meet at least
20 new people, get to taste sake and plates of ramen, and drink half-price sake afterward,
if you decide to stick around with one of your new potential boy/girlfriends. Just
make sure you don’t obnoxiously slurp your noodles and you’ll do fine. Tickets ($30)
are available online. 7 PM.
Wednesday, September 11
BIKING: This month’s
Bike Party DC theme is Around the World, which is a really far way to bike. Luckily, you’ll only
have to go a couple miles through Embassy Row and eventually over to Acre 121 in Columbia
Heights. Wear something that represents your heritage and join up with 300 of your
closest friends. Free. 7:30 PM.
Thursday, September 12
BIRTHDAYS: Friday’s
Black Cat 20th anniversary party (next year it can finally drink!) has long been sold out, but
if you head there the rest of this week, you can grab a special combo—PBR and a Maker’s
Mark shot—for $5. 8 PM to close.
KARAOKE: All summer,
Hill Country has been holding court at the National Building Museum for its pop-up barbecue backyard
nights, most of which feature live music. This time, you get to provide the music
yourself: The Rock & Twang live band karaoke heads outside, so you can let the greater
Penn Quarter area hear what you’ve got. Free. 5:30 to 11 PM.
