Arlingtonians, your morning routine just got better. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is hitting the streets today, launching a food truck from its Penn Quarter shop. The black van will stop exclusively in the Arlington area for now, with DC permits pending.
Initially the menu will offer Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and various flavors of doughnuts. The pastries will reflect what’s being sold in the shop that day, including creative combinations such as maple-bacon, crème brûlée, peanut butter and jelly, and turtle—a riff on the candy with peanuts, caramel, and chocolate—alongside the traditional vanilla and Boston cream. The crew is still figuring out whether the truck can properly churn out baskets of fried chicken, so the menu is purely sweets for now. Look for Astro’s decadent riff on a BLT—a savory chive doughnut stacked with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and a crispy piece of bird—in the near future.
The mobile Astro is parked in Ballston today on North Stuart Street, and will tweet its locations per trucking tradition. Look for future stops in the Rosslyn and Clarendon areas.
