Why you might roll your eyes:
An island in the middle of the Anacostia, DC’s second fiddle of a river?
Why you’ll love it:
This is the most unexpectedly awesome music festival in Washington. The region’s largest all-local music festival—this year April 25—showcases our stocked talent pool of fiddlers, banjo pickers, and other performers. More than 13,000 people went to the all-ages event last year, with families laying down blankets and picnic baskets on the grassy hills while twentysomethings grazed on craft beers and food-truck bites. The festival benefits Living Classrooms, which manages the island as an environmental-education space for at-risk kids.
