BOOKS Transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner will read from her book The Secrets of My Life at Sixth & I. In conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger, she’ll share details of her childhood, her time as Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner, her marriages, her transition, and her experiences as a transgender woman. After the event, there will be a smaller group discussion for anyone who wants to share thoughts sparked by Jenner’s talk. $35 (ticket and pre-signed book), 7 PM.
MUSIC To commemorate one year since Prince’s death, his backing band The Revolution is performing at the Fillmore Silver Spring. The funk/rock/R&B band had two number-one Billboard albums (Purple Rain and Around the World in a Day) and won three Grammys before disbanding in late 1986. The group’s core, original members are reuniting for this tour to pay tribute to Prince and his music. $35, 8 PM.

WORKSHOP Positive Force is hosting a workshop on digital organizing at St. Stephen’s in Columbia Heights. The workshop will be led by Justin Jacoby Smith, the digital-field lead for Democracy Spring, and will cover the basics of creating digital campaigns that can push justice forward. BEER DC Brau is starting a “Deep Cuts Series” of experimental beers available only in the brewery’s tasting room. This Friday celebrates the first of those releases, dubbed “Volume 1: Hoppy Saison,” and guests are welcome to bring vinyl to share their own deep cuts on the communal turntable. FESTIVAL The Wine & Food Festival takes place at the Waterfront at National Harbor on Saturday and Sunday. It’ll feature wines, beers, and spirits as well as food, cooking demos, and meet & greets with celebrity chefs. SPORTS The Redskins are hosting a 5k Draft Day Dash at FedEx Field, with a course winding through the parking lot and ending on the 50-yard line. After the race, there will be appearances and autograph sessions with current and previous Redskins plus a broadcast of the NFL draft live on the stadium’s HD video boards. $45 to race (admission/parking are free), 10:30 AM (race start).
SHOPPING The DMV sneaker convention SneakerMania is on Saturday at the Convention Center. The event will feature over 50 vendors with shoes ready to buy, sell, or trade, such as original Jordan’s and Kanye West’s iconic Yeezy shoes. $20, 12 PM.
PROTEST The People’s Climate March is a movement to speak out against Donald Trump’s climate-denying agenda and to demand action for the global climate crisis. The march begins at the Capitol Building at 11 AM, progresses toward the White House, and will reconvene by the Washington Monument at 3 PM with speakers from the front line of the climate crisis. Free to attend.
MUSIC The Smithsonian American Art Museum is celebrating the centennial birthday of jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald with a concert in the SAAM’s Kogod Courtyard. Vocalist Sharón Clark and her ensemble will perform works from Fitzgerald’s career, and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Jazz Ensemble will also perform. Free, 2 PM.

SPOKEN WORD Jammin’ Java is hosting a fundraiser for the National Network to End Domestic Violence, featuring Northern Virginia’s storytelling show Better Said Than Done. Titled Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors, the event will feature 9 women storytellers sharing first-hand stories about relationships, abuse, and motherhood. MUSIC Austin psychedelic rock band The Black Angels are performing on Sunday night at the 9:30 Club. The group, which just released its fifth album, Death Song, is playing with longtime psychedelic/shoegaze band A Place To Bury Strangers. $25, 7 PM.
